Began Vegan

by Timothy J. Verret

(inspired by the CCC’s Friday Night Live Sermon on Hunters and Hunting)

PRAYER: Father God, thank you that You made us Gardeners, not hunters, how it all “Began Vegan.” “And God said, ‘Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat’ (Genesis 1:29). Thank You that how it all “Began Vegan” in Genesis was that our food would come from fruits and vegetation and not Your nonhuman animals for our “meat.”

How the mighty and skilled have fallen from the turn of events from sin in the Garden of Eden. It was Nimrod, the mighty hunter, and Esau, the skilled hunter, the only mentioned hunters in the Bible, who hunted God’s nonhuman animals for the “taste” of this meat. It was Nimrod, the mighty hunter, who “began” Babylon which was “MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATION OF EARTH” (Revelation 17:5). It was Esau, the mighty hunter, who “began” as the beloved son in Isaac’s eyes and not Esau’s brother, Jacob, but in the Lord’s Eyes, it was the opposite: “Yet Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated” (Malachi 1:2-3). And in Leviticus 17:14, “Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh: for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off.”

How many times have I had to walk by the packaged meat section in a grocery store and see meat with blood visible in the package? Not my word but Your Word, Father God, for “whosoever eateth it shall be cut off.” Return all of us to the Garden to be Gardeners, not hunters, how it all “Began Vegan.” I pray this in the Wonderful and Precious Name of Jesus Christ, and this prayer is answered by my faith and my belief. Please help me, Father God, where my faith and my belief are lacking. Amen.

GARDENERS, NOT HUNTERS: “BEGAN VEGAN”

You began as God’s gardener, vegan.

You began never to hunt God’s critters.

You began to eat the greens of God’s Plan.

You began not to eat the beast’s jitters.

I began as God’s gardener, vegan.

I began never to hunt God’s beings.

I began to eat the seeds of God’s Bran.

I began not to eat the beast’s feelings.

Gardeners, not hunters, as God Began,

says God’s Word. Veg and fruit, “Began Vegan.”

The meat and the blood, the hunter, the man.

The green and the Garden, the Good of man.

Return to the Garden where God made man

Gardeners, not hunters: “Began Vegan.”
