Philip Wollen: “In their capacity to suffer, a dog is a pig is a bear is a boy”

This week’s showcased item is an incredibly powerful nine minute speech by Philip Wollen, who is an Australian philanthropist, environmentalist and animal rights activist. He’s a vegan and funds projects that protect children, animals and the environment.

Philip was Vice President of Citibank. At age 40, he witnessed cruelty on such a colossal scale that it affected him profoundly. He decided to give away everything he owned and die broke. In this video, Philip addresses the St. James Ethics and the Wheeler Centre debate and talks of how he foresees another world possible if “we get animals off the menu and out of these torture chambers”.

We read in the Bible that Isaiah also foresaw another world, a glorious kingdom in which all creatures would return to the harmony of creation, a world perfected in Christ; a vision which is shared by Creation Care Church: “They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain, for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea” (Isa 11:9).
