all you who are weary

Come to Me All You Who Are Weary

A word of encouragement and a prayer for all who are weary of the tragic events taking place all over the world – the wars; the political divisiveness and violence; the power struggles, corruption, and deceit inherent in nearly every pillar of society – leaving us often not knowing what’s real or fake, true or false in the myriad of events surrounding all of us.  For those:

  • Who mourn with others who’ve lost loved ones during what should be peaceful public events whether victim or perpetrator;
  • Who mourn for victims both human and animal in the unprecedented frequency and strength of destructive weather patterns destroying everything in their paths;
  • Who are astounded how deceived mankind can be – how hardened his heart is that he will not see how his own habits and appetites destroy the rest of creation;
  • Who grieve over the victims of war, over the victims of political violence, human trafficking, and are angry with those who perpetrate them;
  • Who are outraged at the number of incidents of mass shootings in America;
  • Et al.

The sheer amount of violence and division all around us can overcome us.  It’s easy to become enraged at the anthropocentrism of so many people, overwhelmed at the amount of need in the world that is not being met and the amount of suffering that goes unrelieved.  We may be incensed at the relentlessness of those who would create chaos and commit violence, and who block those who try to provide aid or rescue victims.  We feel the pain and suffer the burdens of victims, both human and animal, as though they were our own.  Oh, the injustice of it all!  Where or to whom shall we turn?

Picture a room where we come together before God with our concerns and our sorrows.  We lay these burdens before Elohim and cry out to Him – “Abba Father”.  We are overcome by the Majesty of His Greatness, the power of His love and His Sovereignty.  An overwhelming sense of His Justness comes over us.  We are suddenly aware –  the most ruthless criminal; the most powerful corrupt politician; those who orchestrate war or commit political violence or go on a rampage in a crowd of people with a gun; those whose appetites destroy the rest of creation – they are ALL people that no matter what they have done are neither above nor below us; they are subject to the powers and principalities to commit evil whether they are aware of it or not, as are all of us.  There aren’t any found that are righteous in this room.  None are blameless.  All is laid bare before Him. We ALL stand equally broken before God in our need of the Savior Jesus.

Hebrews 4:12-13:  For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Proverbs 15:3: The eyes of the LORD are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.

Let us take comfort in knowing that God sees all that is happening and is intimately involved.  He alone is Just and can judge rightly.  He promises an end to this age one day where all creation will be free from pain and suffering and know peace. Let’s pray together:

Abba, we cry out to you because of all the violence, pain, and sorrow in this broken world.  We pray for vision and wisdom, that we may discern right from wrong.  We pray for those who have lost loved ones due to any and all forms of violence – war, political, weather, gun, human trafficking, and more – the list seems endless.  We ask for comfort, peace, healing, and opportunities for the Holy Spirit to move in hearts and minds of all who perpetrate violence to bring them to repentance.  We ask that you would relieve the oppression and suffering of the animals in all the ways they are abused, neglected, marginalized; please provide them the anesthetic of the Holy Spirit.

In crisis, no matter how they come about, remind us that you take what Satan means for evil and use these circumstances for good. We pray for your strength to overcome, to forgive, to have compassion on all people no matter their walk or stature in life or what they have done.  We pray to be awed by your Majesty, wooed by the power of your Love, comforted by your Sovereignty, and rest assured that you will bring Justice for you are a Just God.

Remind us that everyone is in need of the Savior.  We pray for all people to repent and be delivered from the bondage of sin and death.  We pray not to be weighed down by the sorrows of our times nor give Satan a foothold in our grief. The people of the world need deliverance from his stranglehold, and we pray to be instruments of your love to them.  We pray to be sensitive to where we are needed most – where it is darkest the Light shines brightest.

Help us trust in You and we will  “…find new strength.  [We] will soar high on wings like eagles.  [We] will run and not grow weary.  [We] will walk and not faint” (Isa 40:31).  In renewed strength we pledge to be your hands and feet, the voice for the voiceless, to shine your Light to all men in all circumstances in hopes they would be drawn to You.  Help us to leave what we cannot do in your hands trusting that you share in and are intimately involved with the suffering of all creation – the harvest is great, please send workers.  You are our Leader, our President, our King.   We are your humble servants.  We pledge allegiance only to You.  Help us be still and know that You are God – You are the I AM Who has promised to restore all creation as Isaiah has foretold and to make all things right.  You are faithful who promises.  AMEN

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”  Ephesians 6:12
