Lent – A great time to practice mercy and honor God’s creation

For those who observe this tradition or know others who do, Lent is a great time to go vegan or to encourage others to do so! A short message from Sarx.

Today is Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of Lent—a season of repentance, reflection, and renewal. It is a time when Christians traditionally fast, seeking to align their lives more closely with God’s will.
Choosing a plant-based Lent is a powerful way to practice mercy, reduce suffering, and honour God’s creation. By abstaining from animal products, we not only follow Christ’s call to love but also care for the earth and its inhabitants.

Bible verse:

“Is this not the fast that I choose: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?” – Isaiah 58:6

Today, millions of animals suffer in factory farms, denied the life God intended for them. Our Lenten commitment can be a tangible act of love—choosing mercy in what we eat.

Prayer:

Merciful God, as we begin this Lenten journey, open our hearts to Your call for justice and compassion. Help us to choose kindness in our daily lives, that we may reflect Your love for all creation. Strengthen us to make choices that bring peace, healing, and mercy. Amen.
